It’s Cupcakes for a Cause Week!

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

You may have noticed that the first cupcake on our homepage carousel is one with an orange-smiley face and fun orange twizzler hair.   And you may have noticed that it looks an awful lot like the Cupcakes for a Cause logo on the button in the bottom left-hand corner of the page.

Well, we’re featuring this “Cupcake for a Cause” because September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. And this week, September 21-27, is CancerCare for Kids® Cupcakes for a Cause Week!

ccfac

Cupcakes for a Cause is the annual national fundraiser for the CancerCare for Kids® program.  This really great program provides free professional services to any child affected by cancer, whether the diagnosis is their own or that of a loved one.

There are lots of ways that you can get involved (ranging from super-easy to more involved) and it’s definitely not too late to help!

All details are at www.cancercare.org.  And here is a quick list of options and the links to make it easy for you to participate.

  • Buy a delicious cupcake at over 350 participating bakeries nationwide; a portion of the proceeds goes to CancerCare for Kids.
  • Send free, virtual e-Cupcakes to your friends and family; 1-800-FLOWERS.COM will donate $1 per e-Cupcake sent (up to $5,000).  Note: It looks like the $5,000 has already been met, but it’s still a great way to tell people about the cause and also brighten their day.  I mean, who doesn’t love a virtual cupcake?
  • Visit one of the 250 participating BloomNet florists to buy a Cupcake in Bloom™ floral arrangement; 10% of net proceeds benefit CancerCare for Kids.
  • Send a special gift to a friend or loved one from the exclusive 1-800-FLOWERS.COM® Cupcakes for a Cause collection; 10% of net proceeds benefit CancerCare for Kids.
  • Host your own bake sale, with help from a free, downloable toolkit, sponsored by Reynolds® Baking Cups, (yes, that’s us!) and donate the proceeds to CancerCare for Kids.  The kit includes a red velvet cupcake recipe from renowned baker and author Matt Lewis, owner of  Baked in Brooklyn, NY and Charleston, SC.  We don’t know if he’d call it sacrilege, but it seems you could even dye some of the scrumptious cinnamon buttercream frosting orange and make the smiley-face decorations on top!
  • Become a fan of 1-800-Flowers on Facebook; 1-800-Flowers.com will donate $1 to CancerCare per new fan added through 9/27 (up to $1,000).
